Outreach Programme: Spreading compassion through volunteerism

    July 4, 2025

Faculty members and students from the Faculty of English Language, Lac Hong University (LHU), conducted a heartfelt outreach visit to the Tu Tam Nhan Ai Social Protection Center. Carrying with them essential gifts and messages of love, they reached out to underprivileged children and elderly individuals living at the center.

Lac Hong University's Faculty of English Language students and faculty engage in a compassionate outreach program, distributing essential gifts and fostering connections at Tu Tam Nhan Ai Social Protection Centre in Binh Duong.

    Small Acts – Profound Impact

As part of the university’s annual volunteer initiatives, the outreach team from the Faculty of English Language brought a range of practical gifts—milk, rice, confectionery, and daily necessities—to support disadvantaged elderly people and children. More importantly, heartfelt gestures—kind words, warm smiles, and empathetic eyes—became invaluable spiritual gifts for both givers and recipients.

This initiative aligns closely with Lac Hong University's long-standing mission of “serving the community.” The university actively promotes sustainable development through community engagement, with participation at multiple levels—academic faculties, administrative offices, and university-wide efforts.

The visit served not only as a community service activity but also as a living lesson in compassion, encapsulating the university’s commitment to humanistic education.

“We believe that education begins with acts of tangible love and empathy,” shared one participating lecturer.

Linking Outreach with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

This social initiative contributes directly to SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, by connecting higher education with community-based collaboration. At the same time, it reflects the university’s broader commitment to several other goals in the UN Sustainable Development Goals framework:

    1. SDG 1 – No Poverty: By offering direct support to vulnerable populations in need.

    2. SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: By nurturing both the physical and emotional well-being of socially disadvantaged groups.

    3. SDG 4 – Quality Education: By integrating ethical education into real-life service-learning experiences.

    4. SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: By focusing on marginalized groups such as orphans and the elderly, the programme underscores LHU’s commitment to social inclusion and equity.

This humane action forms part of Lac Hong University’s sustainable development strategy, aiming to amplify social impact and reinforce the university’s role in advancing equitable and inclusive communities.

    One Journey – Many Values

Though brief, the morning’s journey left a lasting impression on participants, fostering a deep sense of civic responsibility, volunteer spirit, and empathy—values that LHU strives to cultivate in every student.

“When you give love, it finds a way to return to you in the most magical ways.”

“What we brought was not merely material gifts, but hearts ready to listen and share—and that is the most beautiful lesson for every student.”
    — Lecturer, Faculty of English Language, LHU
